Really great sushi for Lake Charles. Outside area and entrance koi pond needs some love but the inside is really nice. The Lady Gaga roll is my favorite.

This is my third time eating here. I've enjoyed the food every time and the service has been fairly good as well. Unfortunately what happened tonight plummeted this otherwise reasonable restaurant into a YELP #2 and into my list of restaurants that I won't bother going back to... Here is what happened: Like every other Japanese restaurant, the appetizer menu had a seaweed salad and a squid salad. Like I do at every other Japanese restaurant I go to, I requested half and half. The server said that she couldn't do that. I said "could you ask". She said that lots of people request it, but they can't do it.
So, a word of advice to this restaurant - choosing to deny that request is definitely not a "can't ". It is a "won't ". It lost you a customer tonight. -

Very limited "sushi" items for vegetarians. We asked the waiter if there was anything else. He told us no. The only thing listed is the vegetarian sushi and sashimi box where they choose which vegetarian roll they will make for you. We are the kind of people that want control over their orders and prefer to choose ourselves. The one tofu dish is not vegetarian because of the sauce it is in. Also the 17 pages of food doesn't know make me feel confident about their cuisine. We ended up leaving before ever ordering. Just not for us.

Stopped by here for a "quick" bite on our way back from Houston to BR when my sister was visiting us. it took us 20 minutes to get to here from I-10 (my mistake, I should have checked prior to us getting off the highways). Anyways, the place is HUGE, but terrible service. Our server was gone for large periods of time, making it impossible for us to order on time, ask for the check/ extra utensils etc, without feeling extremely frustrated.
My sister had the lo mein (no meat). For $8, the portion size was pretty big. It tasted okay, but was positively swimming in oil - you could siphon off tablespoons if you tried.
Anurag had the same with chicken - not enough chicken and still swimming in oil.
I decided to experiment with their sushi (BAD idea). I tried the ahi tower - a BIG blog of rice, topped with some medium grade, overdressed tuna, then topped with another big blob of rice - NOT what the menu advertised. I gave up after a few bites. I also had the crab salad thing in a cocktail cup. The quality of the kani was very medium and I did not enjoy it. The clear soup was okay - over salted in my mind.
We had to spend about 1 hours total here, without the check. Will i be back? Nope, not a chance. -

Service was outstanding once we were waited on - a little slow to get started considering they weren't busy. Mango Tango Roll cut into 8 large pieces was fresh, tasty and nicely presented - great cooked roll. My husband had the Teriyaki Scallops, and they were perfectly cooked. The serving was huge, with 10 scallops on a bed of lettuce, along with rice and miso soup. I had Tempura Shrimp and Veggies, including 6 very large shrimp, carrots, asparagus, onion, broccoli and snap peas along with rice and miso soup. Beautifully carved carrot flowers added a nice touch on the plate. The bottle of Mondavi CS house wine was reasonably priced and a good choice.
We would definitely return to the restaurant on future trips to Lake Charles.
